Poor Voices =
Poor Choices
Here are some notes from our recent Ray McElroy assembly.

Picture
  • I pledge to only speak about another person if it’s kind, true and helpful.

  • I pledge to help put a stop to bullying, gossip and rumors.

  • I pledge to listen to the right voices and do my best to always make good choices.

About Fifth Grade...

Whether you're a student, parent, guardian or someone else who cares for and about our students, we hope you'll find the information contained on our site helpful.

As part of our commitment to keep you informed and engaged in your child’s fifth grade experience, we will update our site regularly so you know what’s happening in our

PARCC Info for Parents and  Students

Beginning this school year, Illinois schools will administer new assessments
created through the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). These online assessments are fully aligned to the new Illinois Learning Standards in English language arts (ELA) and math and are designed to make sure each student is not only prepared for the next grade level but also on
track for post secondary success. The PARCC system places a greater emphasis on academic rigor, critical thinking, problem solving and college and career readiness for all students.

Click here to go to the Illinois State of Board of Education's web site to get information on this assessment change.

Think like a 5th Grader!

One person can make a difference.  Here's a poem that discusses this and gives us something to think about.

The Power of One
_____________
I WILL DO MORE
______
I am only one,

but I am one.
I cannot do everything,
but I can do something.
And what I can do,

I ought to do.
And what I ought to do,
by grace, I will do.
I will do more than belong...
I will participate.
I will do more than care...
I will help.
I will do more than believe...
I will practice.
I will do more than be fair...
I will be kind.
I will do more than dream...
I will work.
I will do more than teach...
I will inspire.
I will do more than earn...
I will enrich.
I will do more than give...
I will serve.
I will do more than live...
I will grow.
I will do more than talk...

I will act.
I will be more than good...
I will be good

for something.
