These are some ideas we came up with during our RTI sessions. As we come up with more ideas, we'll update this list.
- Look at the whole word. Don't look at the first part and then guess.
- Make sure the word makes sense in context.
- Try and sound the word out; if you recognize parts of the word, say those. The word may come to you as you say what you know.
- Take your time and read fluently, not quickly.
- Remember one goal of reading is comprehension. How can you understand what you are reading if you don't know the words? Never skip over a word you don't know unless you plan to come back to it after you've looked the entire sentence.
- Read only the words on the pages, don't put your own words in.

Challenge: Try and use them in sentences in the fabric of your lives. When you have succeeded in using words in a variety of well-rounded conversations, let us know. It's great to create images in your hearer's head as you speak. And here's a relief: don't fret if you don't come up with a unique idea right away. Fortunately, these words have a remarkable way of roaming around and showing up when we least expect them. That's where the excitement comes in! Be daring; don't worry about causing a wreck; there's nothing fragile here! When you're dedicated to something, your hard work will pay off swiftly! You'll be a proud member of the vocabulary citizens team!
